Words to Live By

I love music.  I've been having so much fun lately adding songs to a list I named "Life Soundtrack" on my Spotify account.  It's like making mix tapes all over again, but even better is that I have no limits because the cassette tape never runs out and the songs are as easily accessible as typing in the song title or artist.

Today, this post's a fun one, with a few of my latest favorites, that of course speak messages of freedom.  I'm posting some of their lyrics as well as YouTube videos.  Because there are times I need to come back to this place and encourage myself; it does my soul well.

Life Uncommon,  Jewel

"i've heard your anguish,
i've heard your hearts cry out
we are tired, we are weary, but we aren't worn out
set down your chains, until only faith remains
set down your chains

and lend your voices only to sounds of freedom
no longer lend your strength to that
which you wish to be free from
fill your lives with love and bravery
and we shall lead a life uncommon

there are plenty of people who pray for peace
but if praying were enough it would have come to be
let your words enslave no one
and the heavens will hush themselves
to hear our voices ring out clear
with sounds of freedom
sounds of freedom"

True to Myself, Ziggy Marley

"I don't care if it hurts I'm tired of lies and all these games
I've reached a point in life no longer can I be this way
don't come crying to me I too have shed my share of tears
I'm moving on yes I'm grooving on
well I'm finally free I've
got to be true to myself got to be true to myself
got to be true to myself got to be true to myself"

Baleen Morning,  Balmorhea

This is an instrumental selection,
and the video is one of the few posted on YouTube
that someone has created to go along with the music.
This song is nostalgiac for me,
and I hear words to it when it plays;
I hear "love calling, love calling..."

And I found this comment on another one of the videos,
that encompasses my feeling about this song as well:
"This brings back memories...such beautiful memories. Memories of when I was truly happy,
truly content with myself, and without a care in the world.
Little moments that would mean nothing to anyone but me.
It makes me think of memories yet to come, memories where I am utterly and perfectly content and pleased with what is me. I feel like I'll never have to lose hope in the world as long as I hope for and have faith in myself. I feel beauty."
